by Tennessee Williams
directed by Keely Enright
The Village Repertory Co is pleased to present Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke at the historic Woolfe Street Playhouse as the Season 19 opener.
Summer and Smoke is set in Glorious Hill, Mississippi, and centers on Alma Winemiller, a highly strung, unmarried minister’s daughter, and the spiritual romance that nearly blossoms between her and John Buchanan Jr., a wild, undisciplined young doctor who grew up next door.
One of Tennessee Williams’ most subtle and tender works, “Summer and Smoke” explores the conflict between the hedonistic body and the lofty spirit.
