Village Teen Troupe presents the Charleston premiere of CARRIE- The Musical.
BASED ON THE NOVEL BY STEPHEN KING
Directed by Christine Cleary
Music by Michael Gore Lyrics by Dean Pitchford
Book by Lawrence D. Cohen
Carrie is lonely. Carrie is angry. Carrie will fit in. Whatever it costs.
New blood courses through this contemporary rock musical, based on Stephen King’s haunting story of teen angst, religious fervor, and the complicated relationship between a mother and daughter. As Carrie navigates the harsh realities of high school bullying and her overprotective mother, a new and violent power is unleashed inside her—and she’ll use it.
Once again Village Teens tackle important topics that are relevant to today’s youth. Carrie is, sadly, a timeless tale. A story of bullying, abuse, religious fanaticism, shame, guilt, revenge, and a desperate desire to belong, it is a story we hear echoed almost every day. Village Teen Troupe takes on these universal themes in this powerful musical adaptation of Stephen King’s masterful novel. We find ourselves asking questions: Why do people treat one another this way? What drove this individual to violence? Why didn’t anyone step up to help before it was too late? Carrie forces us to confront these questions and more as we see young Carrie White, object of ridicule at school and abuse at home, reach her breaking point with devastating consequences.
